GETTING STARTED WITH TRAINING

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAINING?

Each license and rating has its own requirements. Please see our programs section for the specified requirements for each program, including minimum ages to commence training. 

HOW DO I APPLY?

To apply, fill out our application form. A staff member will be in contact with you to help you get started within three business days of completing the form. 

HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN START FLYING?

After filling our out online application form, a member of our staff will be in contact with you. You will be asked to complete an enrollment package and send it back to us.

Once these items are complete, we will get you flying as soon as possible! Start times depend primarily on instructor availability. 

HOW DOES GROUND SCHOOL WORK?

A mandatory component of the PPL and CPL training is ground school, where you learn about the theory and regulations behind the flying you do with your instructor.

HOW DO I TRANSFER TRAINING FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL?

If you are looking to transfer to SATC from another flight school, please fill out our application form. Once you are registered with us, we will need your Pilot Training Record (PTR).

WHERE CAN I GET A MEDICAL DONE? CAN I HOLD A MEDICAL IF I WEAR GLASSES?

A medical must be done by a Transport Canada Certified Aviation Medical Examiner (CAME). Find your nearest CAME here.

You don't need to have 20/20 vision to get a medical, however your vision needs to be corrected to 20/20 and glasses/contacts must be worn when flying.

WHAT PRIOR EDUCATION DO I NEED?

There are no requirements for high school or post-secondary completion to undergo flight training.

DO I NEED AN ENGLISH PROFICIENCY TEST?

If you attended high school in Canada, an English proficiency test is not required.

If you did NOT complete high school in Canada, you will be required to undergo an English proficiency test, which will be organized at some point over the course of your training. 

HOW LONG DOES TRAINING TAKE?

This depends on how often you fly, as well as how quickly you pick up the material. Each of our programs has an estimated timeline calculator attached

WHAT ARE YOUR HOURLY RATES?

Prices do not include GST and are subject to change.

HOW DO I PAY FOR MY TRAINING?

All students are required to have a credit card on file. Students also have the option of adding funds to an account with the school in advance. Training costs are settled on a pay-as-you-go basis, either being charged to the card on file or withdrawn from the school account.

Student loans are available for CPL training and ratings. No student funding is available for PPL.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR STUDENT LOANS?

Once your PPL is complete, we will help you get started with the student loan application process.

SERVICES

DO YOU SELL FUEL?

At this time, we do not sell fuel.

DO YOU ACCEPT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS?

At this time we are accepting domestic students only. Keep an eye on our blog for updates!

DO YOU HAVE HANGAR SPACE FOR RENT?

At this time we do not offer our hangar space for rent.

HOW DO I RENT AIRCRAFT?

Click Here for information regarding aircraft rentals and the sign-up process. Please note that we do not offer our multi-engine aircraft for rentals. 

CAN I RENT AIRCRAFT FOR MULTIPLE DAYS?

Multi-day rentals are permitted on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of SATC management.

DO YOU OFFER DISCOVERY/SIGHTSEEING FLIGHTS?

We absolutely do! Discovery flights are ideal for prospective students, while sightseeing flights cater more for people just looking to go flying. Information on both can be found here

DO YOU OFFER PRIVATE TRAINING ON MY OWN AIRCRAFT?

Requests for private training will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by SATC management.

DO YOU SELL MAPS/PILOT SUPPLIES?

New students have the option of purchasing a pilot kit from us which contains all of the supplies required for the PPL and CPL, however we do not sell individual maps or pieces of equipment

DO YOU SELL GIFT CARDS?

Gift cards are available in various denominations. Contact Us for more information on gift card sales.

SCHOOL POLICIES

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

All cancellations requests must be submitted via the cancellation reporting form. Bookings cancelled with less than 48hrs notice will be subject to a fee of $90+GST

No-Shows may be charged a fee of $200 for each 2 hour block of the booking. 

​

Students and renters are required to be at the school a minimum of 30 minutes prior to their booking. Failure to arrive early will result in a no-show charge.  

HOW CAN I REQUEST MORE FLIGHTS ON SHORT NOTICE?

DO YOU FLY IN THE WINTER? HOW ABOUT AT NIGHT? WHAT ABOUT DURING BAD WEATHER?

We operate all year long in all seasons. All PPL training and most CPL training must be done during daylight hours. With the exception of training towards the Instrument (IFR) rating, all training must be done in Visual Meteorological Conditions. You will go over what these are in your training.

CAN I TAKE MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY ON FLIGHTS?

On training flights, we want your focus to be on the lesson at hand, so passengers are not permitted. Once your training is complete, you are able to rent our aircraft and take passengers along.

THE SCHOOL

IS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AVAILABLE TO SATC?

No public transportation is available to the Springbank Airport.

IS THERE A DRESS CODE?

While we don't have a formal dress code, we require that students are dressed appropriately for the time of year and conditions of the day. Open-toed shoes are prohibited.

HOW DOES YOUR SCHEDULING WORK?

As part of the registration process, all students fill out an availability form. Our scheduling department then uses this availability to build the schedule based on what you put down.

WHAT ARE YOUR OPERATING HOURS?

Our office hours are from 8:00AM-4:00PM Monday to Friday. However, as a school we operate 7 days a week, start and end times of flights depends on the season and daylight hours.
